AT RICHMOND ROVERS, MAKING IT TO U13s MEANS ONE THING.
Every player who pulls on a Rovers shirt knows the tour is coming. They hear about it from older brothers. They see the photos on the wall. By the time they’re old enough to go, they’ve been looking forward to it for years.
We’ve been sending teams to OVV Oostvoorne – just outside Rotterdam – every year since 2009. Over 100 players, parents and coaches make the trip each Easter. What started as a football trip has become something much bigger. Players develop more in one long weekend abroad than they might in weeks of training at home. They learn to solve problems without their parents. They build friendships that outlast the football.
And then on the way home, there’s De Kuip. Home of Feyenoord Rotterdam. A proper stadium tour for a group of 13-year-olds who’ll never forget standing on that pitch.

What does the weekend actually look like?
Every tour has its own character, but here’s how a typical Easter trip to Oostvoorne unfolds.

Day 1: Saturday
Overnight Ferry from Hull
The adventure starts before you even get there. The touring party boards the overnight ferry from Hull to Rotterdam. For a lot of players, it’s their first night away from home without their parents. The team building starts here.

Day 2: Sunday
Arrival and the opening ceremony
Arrive in Rotterdam Sunday morning and head straight to the OVV Sportspark. A proper opening ceremony greets you – including a brass band playing both national anthems. Then it’s straight into tournament football against Dutch clubs.

Day 3: Monday
Free day and evening matches
The adventure starts before you even get there. The touring party boards the overnight ferry from Hull to Rotterdam. For a lot of players, it’s their first night away from home without their parents. The team building starts here.

Day 4: Tuesday
De Kuip and home
Check out, then coach up to Rotterdam for a behind-the-scenes tour of De Kuip – home of Feyenoord. Access all areas, time in the club shop, then back to the port for the overnight ferry home. Tired, happy, and already talking about next year.
How did the 2026 tour go?
Three teams. Two tournaments. A touring party of over 100. All three teams showed excellent sportsmanship throughout. At the tournament presentation, Richmond Rovers presented their Fair Play Award to OVV’s Lucas van der Schalk – and received OVV’s Fair Play Award in return.

The relationship began in 2009 when a team of Under 12s made the first trip. Since then, hundreds of Richmond players have experienced football in a foreign country. OVV aren’t just hosts – they’re family. They come to us for the Anglo Dutch Cup every year, and we go to them every Easter.
On the waY home: De Kuip
Home of Feyenoord Rotterdam – one of the most famous clubs in world football. Every touring party gets an access-all-areas stadium tour before catching the ferry home. For most of these kids, it’s the biggest ground they’ve ever stood in.
TheY come to us too: the Anglo Dutch Cup.
Every summer, OVV Oostvoorne visit us at Jackson’s Lane, Hazel Grove for the Anglo Dutch Cup. Our U14 teams host two OVV sides in a day of competitive football, an opening ceremony, and a proper community occasion.

Who goes on the tour?
All U13 teams at Richmond Rovers. Every player in that age group gets the opportunity – it’s not reserved for the best players or select squads. Over 100 players, parents and coaches made the trip in 2026.
When does the tour take place?
Every year at the start of the Easter holidays. The touring party departs on the Saturday evening on the overnight ferry from Hull to Rotterdam, and returns home Tuesday evening.
How much does it cost?
Costs are confirmed each year once travel and accommodation are finalised. The tour is organised directly by the club to keep costs as reasonable as possible. Get in touch and we’ll send you the latest details.
Is it safe? Who's supervising?
All trips are supervised by DBS-checked club coaches and committee members. We’ve been running this tour since 2009 and the safety of every player is the first priority throughout.
Do you really visit Feyenoord's stadium?
Every year. On the final day of the tour the whole party coaches up to De Kuip in Rotterdam for a behind-the-scenes stadium tour. It’s one of the highlights of the trip for players and parents alike.
My child has never been away from home before. Is that okay?
Absolutely – and you’re not alone in worrying about that. Many of our players are going away for the first time. Our coaches look after every player as if they were their own. You’ll get regular updates throughout the weekend.
